Rocket - Freeform Peyote Necklace

A freeform peyote necklace called "Rocket". This necklace was created using peyote stitch in a freeform format. Each bead was sewn by hand - the beads used are seed beads size 11 and 8 with some larger accent beads used as decoration - all beads are in different shades of red. It has a hand beaded toggle and loop closure. This necklace took many hours of beading to create and is truly one-of-a-kind. The actual necklace measures 17 ½ inches in length. It is 2 inches in width at its widest point.

I look at this necklace and cannot believe I made it - I would have never attempted this but I bought a kit for a freeform bracelet from Marcia DeCoster. I started out to make a bracelet with some of my own beads - sort of a practice piece but it didn't want to be a bracelet - it begged to be a necklace and who am I to argue.

Net Heart Bracelet

This is a new net bracelet that I just finished. I am still using up all the red beads I bought for the January EBW challenge. The band is red size 11 seed beads in a net stitch. The center heart is a silver button with the shank removed - it has size 8 red seed beads and size 11 silver seed beads woven around it.

Heart Freeform Bracelet - Part 2

Well here is the finished bracelet. I am very happy with the way this bracelet came out. It is freeform peyote with a heart button as a focal. I added some silver fringe under the heart, and a silver charm on the closure that says "follow your heart". I think I may name the bracelet that. It also has a hand made peyote toggle closure. This just may be my entry into the EBW challenge "Red". What is unfortunate about these photos is that they do not show the beauty of the beads. The reds are very metallic and shiny - the photos do not do this bracelet justice - oh well!

Heart Freeform Bracelet - Part I

This is for the December/January EBW challenge red – maybe. I used size 6 and 8 seed beads and wanted to do a freeform bracelet. I have a bunch of decorative heart buttons and wanted to use one as the focal. I wanted it to be secure on the bracelet - not flopping around. I tried using Lacys and ultra suede and it didn’t stick to the shinny surface on the back of the button. I couldn’t just bead around the button because of it being a heart and irregular shaped. I did not cut off the shaft so I put two cube beads on each side of the shaft and did square stitch with them and the shaft to secure them and use as a base. I started peyote in the middle of the heart and worked out towards one end. I did peyote behind the heart going through the shaft and then the cube beads. I then went back and started from the middle and worked towards the other end. I am liking this so far!

1 heart bracelet base before I start to add embellishments.
2 a close up of the heart button.
3 the back with the peyote and cube beads.

My First Netted Bracelet

This is my first attempt at a netted bracelet. The photo above is the finished bracelet. This bracelet was made from a pattern by Bev Herman which I purchased here. The bracelet is awesome and the pattern easy to follow. I always consider the first time I try a pattern a learning experience and this was a very positive learning experience. I can't wait to try another one.

The two above photos are the finished netted bracelet before I added the beaded focal.

This is the beginning of the focal. For the middle of this focal I used a button which I cut off the shank. In this photo it is glued to Lacys Stiff Stuff which I colored black with a marker. It also has three rows of beads sewn around it. Next I will finish off the back with ultra suede and add some finishing rows of beading.

Finished bracelet with a button closure.

Another photo of the finished bracelet - not a great photo as I could not get the bracelet to stand on its own very well.

A close up of the finished focal with all 5 rows of beading and a good look at the netting stitches.

One last finished photo with a look at the plain black button closure. I love this bracelet and I can't believe I made it.

November EBWC - Netted Choker

I finally finished my November challenge for Etsy Beadweavers. The challenge was netting and this is my second try. The pattern looks simple but it was quite complicated. The beads are seed beads size 11 in a sapphire blue. The name of this piece is "Sweet Dreams". When I was listing this item in my Etsy Shop I was unsure about what to name it - my husband was watching a movie in the other room and I could hear Patsy Cline's "Sweet Dreams" in the background - I knew the choker wanted to be called just that.

First Netted Necklace

This is my first try at a netted necklace. My neighbor's daughter asked me if I could fix a necklace of hers that was broken and it was netted. I was intrigued by it and decided to try to bead one and this is it. Interestingly enough the November Challenge for the Etsy Beadweavers is netted stitch. This will not be my entry but it is a start.

Cube Bead Bracelet

New peyote stitched bracelet I finished last night. This one is from the new book "Mastering Beadwork" by Carol Cypher and in the book is called "Joy Squared Cuff". It is made with size 4mm cube beads and has a square stitched toggle and a hole beaded right into the bracelet.

I like this book a lot and will be making a lot of the patterns in it.

New Layered Peyote Bracelet

This is my second layered peyote bracelet. The first one I made used size 11 seed beads as the base - it took forever to make. On this one I used gold size 8 seed beads for the base. For the layers I did the same as the first bracelet but used more size 11's in the loop. I really like this bracelet and it was easier to make than the first. It is a bit wider.
